Bazi fortune telling, also known as four pillar inference or fortune telling, is an ancient technique for predicting one's fate. It originated from the ancient philosophy of the Book of Changes, and is a method of inferring a person's wealth, poverty, fortune, misfortune, and good fortune based on the four key elements of their birth year, month, day, and hour, which are four pairs of eight characters (also known as the Four Pillars and Eight Characters).

The Eight Character Fortune Telling Method is the most widely used prediction technique today. Since its establishment by Xu Ziping in the Song Dynasty, the predecessors of fortune telling have continuously explored and researched it, making the theoretical system and accuracy of Eight Character Fortune Telling more perfect and advanced.

Principles of Eight Character Fortune Telling

The principle of fortune telling based on the ancient concept of the unity of heaven and man. This concept holds that there is a symbiotic relationship between humans and the world, and that there are intricate connections between the fate of all things in the universe and humans. Ancient sages believed that by observing celestial phenomena and a person's birth time, one can reveal their personality traits and tendencies towards life development. Eight character fortune telling also applies the theory of the Five Elements. 

The Five Elements theory holds that all things in the universe are composed of five fundamental elements - wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. There is a symbiotic relationship between these five elements, and by analyzing the five elements represented by a person's birth year, month, day, and hour, one can predict their fate. 

In fortune telling, the year bar represents a person's foundation and destiny, the month bar represents a person's personality and appearance, the day bar represents a person's nervous system and motor ability, and the hour bar represents a person's family, marriage, wealth, and other aspects. By analyzing and inferring these four pillars, one can deduce the overall direction and development trend of a person's destiny.

1. The Five Elements Theory: Through long-term observation and practice, ancient Chinese sages scientifically and meticulously analyzed the tangible and intangible qualities that make up the celestial bodies in the universe, based on their characteristics and the laws of their mutual transformation. They summarized the five fundamental elements that make up everything in the universe, namely metal, wood, water, fire, and earth, and called them the Five Elements. And these five basic elements do not refer to metals, trees, soil, etc. in a narrow sense, but are classified into one category based on the similar properties and characteristics of these tangible and intangible gases in terms of their characteristics and transportation laws in the universe. If all the qi and qualities with the characteristics of curvature, growth, and linearity are classified into one category, this category of qi and qualities is consistent with the characteristics of "wood" in nature. Therefore, "wood" is used to represent it; Classify qi and quality that have similar attributes to "fire" in nature, such as being hot, warm, upward, and bright, as "fire"; Classify gases and qualities that have similar properties as "soil" in nature, such as carrying, containing, biochemical, collectible, and heavy, as "soil"; classify gases and qualities that have similar properties as "metal" in nature, such as rigidity, extension, hardness, and killing, as "gold"; Classify the gases and qualities that have properties similar to "water" in nature, such as moistening, flooding, activity, and change, as "water".

The laws of transformation and their inherent characteristics among the five elements are interdependent, mutually restrictive, and mutually transforming, constantly operating and constituting all things in the universe. The mutual restraint between the five elements is the mutual restraint relationship between them, that is, metal restrains wood, wood restrains soil, soil restrains water, water restrains fire, and fire restrains metal; The interdependent transformation relationship between the five elements is a symbiotic relationship, that is, wood makes fire, fire makes soil, soil makes metal, metal makes water, water makes wood, and the cycle never stops. If you understand the origin of the Five Elements theory mentioned above, it is not difficult to understand that the ability of gold to generate water is a general concept of the five elements, where the "metal" gas and "water" gas generate each other, rather than the metal and water in nature, and it is not far fetched to say that gold melts into water after heating.

2. The principle of Bazi fortune telling is that people are born with the qi of the five elements of heaven and earth. The distribution form and energy size of the five elements at the time and space of human birth are the combination form and prosperity/decline of the four pillars and eight characters. The static rise and fall of each of the five elements in the original Eight Characters, as well as their combined forms, are referred to as "primitive energy states" or "innate energy states". In the innate energy state, the source of the energy of each five elements, namely the rise and fall source, is the lunar period. The innate quality of each five element is judged based on its state in the lunar period and its connection to roots, stems, and sources. After entering the Universiade, the Universiade branch was the source of prosperity and decline for the Five Elements of Internal Affairs during this decade. Liunian Branch, also known as Tai Sui, is the source of the prosperity and decline of the five elements in each Liunian. We infer that the Eight Characters are centered around the solar stem, analyzing the energy states and combinations of all five elements in the destiny, determining the innate qualities of each element, and based on this, observing how the energy states of each element change with the change of the zodiac, whether they strengthen or weaken, to determine the auspiciousness or misfortune of a person's fate.

So, the combination form of the Four Pillars and Eight Characters essentially indicates the energy states and combination forms of the five elements at the time of one's birth, which were endowed with the time and space points at that time. This primitive energy state combination form has undergone new changes in the power of the five elements due to the influence of external factors such as great fortune and passing years, and the new energy state combination form has also produced changes in the auspiciousness and inauspiciousness of human beings. Understanding this point is not afraid of outsiders saying that we are superstitious, as there are principles to follow.
